South Korean writer born near Jeongeup city in 1963. Shin Kyung-sook studied Creative Writing at the Seoul Institute of the Arts. She made her debut in 1985 with the novel Kyŏul Uhwa (Winter’s Fable) which was awarded the Munye Joongang Award for Newcomers.
Her novel Please Look After Mom (Zaopiekuj się moją mamą) earned her worldwide fame: it sold two million copies in South Korea and has been translated into 34 languages. Shin Kyung-sook has won numerous literary awards including the Man Asian Literary Prize.
So far three of her books have been translated into Polish: Zaopiekuj się moją mamą, Będę tam and Dworska tancerka.
