Kikanetsu is the first comprehensive collection of the young artist’s works, which features over 170 illustrations. Daisuke Richard mainly portrays women, or rather – young girls: the people in his drawings usually have faces completely devoid of emotions, which is a deliberate action of the author. He intentionally makes it difficult to understand what the characters he depicts feel. He often presents them in school uniforms, contrasting delicate, faded colors that bring to mind sensitivity and fragility, with difficult topics from the liminal space between childhood and adulthood.
The part of the album entitled A Girl In Her Room, is particularily interesting – here, the artist presents girls in their rooms, where the line between reality and fantasy blurs. The book also includes sketches of some drawings, thanks to which we can see the process of their creation from scratch.
