The Man Without Talent is the English-language debut of Yoshiharu Tsuge and a book in which you will find plenty of autobiographical threads, often shown in an extremely honest, unceremonious, even shameless way. The “man without talent” is probably the worst possible version of the author himself. Lazy, undisciplined, obsessed with national traditions, the man undertakes a series of pointless endavours, which all fail very quickly.

The atmosphere of the graphic novel anthology will surely bring to mind the everyday life of Chōko and Ryūkichi from Wiwat małżeństwo. Sukezō and his wife differ from the couple created by Sakunosuke Oda only in that their marriage is formalized, and Sukezō’s wife is far less resourceful and forgiving than Chōko. In addition, you will certainly notice many similarities between The Man Without Talent and Japanese “I-novels” – the author pushes upon his his character with all the fears and neuroses that kept him awake at night.
