Hokusai: Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji

159,00

Hokusai: Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji is an elegant album presenting Hokusai’s 19th-century woodblock prints from the 36 Views of Mount Fuji series. Published in the form of accordion-fold edition, which means that its pages have been folded like an accordion. You can enjoy it by turning page after page, but youc an also unfold the whole thing in front of you. The book is bound in cloth, and the set is completed by a booklet with a short biography of Hokusai and descriptions of all presented works. It all fits into a protective cardboard case.

Although the title of the series mentions thirty-six views, there are in fact forty-six of them – ten additional ones were completed by the artist a little later. Made in the 1820s, the woodblock prints were made in the ukiyo-e style and were first presented in 1830. The eponumous Mount Fuji was presented from different perspectives and in different seasons, sometimes appearing as a majestic, snow-covered peak at sunset, and sometimes as an element of everyday life of the inhabitants of agricultural Japan, a mere background to their daily work.
