I’m Waiting for You by Kim Bo-Young is a collection of four science fiction stories linked by the theme of searching for love. This is an interesting book not only in terms of its subject, but also because of how it’s constructed: the first and last stories are interconnected and complement each other, and same for the two middle ones. The stories intertwine, exploring the forces that drive humanity – love, hope, courage, sacrifice; ask questions about what is truly the meaning of our existence.
In the titular story, we follow the fate of a couple travelling through time and space. The man and the woman are desperately trying to get to Earth to meet there and hold their long-awaited wedding. Unfortunately, not everything goes according to their plan; the journey stretches over many years. Along with the fate of the heroes, we also follow the fate of our planet, which is inevitably heading towards destruction.
Kim Bo-young has managed to write stories that are deeply moving and existential, but nevertheless give the reader hope for a happy ending. The author creates worlds that will surely appeal to fans of futurism and cyber-reality.
