Modern Kyoto Patterns presents 240 selected textile patterns from Tetsuro Terada’s collection. Kyoto was one of the textile industry centres until the 1970s and that’s where many new and interesting patterns appeared; the ones shown here date from the 1920s to the 1970s.
In addition to patterns, there are also short chapters (in Japanese) about the history of the collection and the techniques of textile industry and its development in Japan.
Anyone interested in graphics or fashion will find a lot of inspiration in this mini-album; from very classic Japanese motifs, through abstractions or colour play and intriguing elements (dogs, planes, strawberries, dolls…) to patterns straight from the hippie 70s, full of psychedelic saturated colors.
