11th March 2011 divides the history of modern Japan into before and after. Niedźwiedzi bóg 2011 [Kamisama 2011] was one of the first literary text to appear in the world after. It is a story of a Bear that moves in to our neighbourhood and invites us for a walk. The readers of Hiromi Kawakami already knew the plot – it was the same as in her debut short story Niedźwiedzi bóg [Kamisama]. In 2011 the author decided to retell it and therefore prove that in the world after nothing is the same anymore.
Polish edition of Niedźwiedzi bóg presents both versions of the short story, now an example of the post-3.11 literary movement. These two stories show us the before and after, in a perfect way portraying what we prefer not to see in our daily lives. Additionally to Beata Kubiak Ho-Chi’s Polish translation, the readers can find the original Japanese text as well. Preface by Karolina Bednarz.
