Pomniejsze uczucia (eng. Minor Feelings) are emotions felt by non-white persons, tossed aside as unimportant or far-fetched, not in line with the American neoliberal ethos. They are followed by a conviction that nobody cares about your daily struggles. You either fit the “good Asian” stereotype or there’s no place for you in the common imagination.
Cathy Park Hong, a poet and scholar, daughter of Korean immigrants, coined this term to describe her experiences in accepting her roots. She shares stories about adolescence, friendships, depression, prejudices, political shame and women in culture who paved the ways.
Pomniejsze uczucia. O doświadczeniu azjoamerykańskosci is her autobiography, collection of essays on culture and radical history but most importantly – an attempt to answer the question: what is the Asian American identity today?
