When one day a little bear finds a red berry, he decides to climb a very tall tree in search of more. Everything red he encounters on the way looks like fruit to the bear: a caterpillar, a squirrel’s tail – and when it reaches the top – also the great rising sun, which he reaches out to touch… Which may not be the best idea when you’ve just climbed a giant pine tree. Fortunately, the bear cub lands right in the arms of mother bear.
Simple in its narrative, the story, written and outlined by an award-winning Korean artist, draws you in and delights from the very first page. Lee Gee-eun, using three colors: red, yellow and traditional black ink, created a masterful picturebook. Each spread grabs your attention, inviting you to find out what happens next.
