Fans of romantic novels and warm stories (although not devoid of melodramatic twists and turns) will surely appreciate that Shokubutsu Zukan (lit. Atlas of Plants) by Hiro Arikawa arrived in Tajfuny.
The life of twenty-something Sayaka, gray and orderly as befits a simple office worker, turns upside down when in front of her house she meets Itsuki, a boy who clearly has nowhere to go. She takes him home. The temporary help will unexpectedly turn into a longer and closer acquaintance.
Itsuki will bring some warmth and color to Sayaka’s life. The boy turns out to be a specialist in wild plants, weeds, flowers and everything that grows and from which you can prepare surprisingly tasty and nutritious dishes. Cooking and walking in search of plants together become the brightest moments in Sayaka’s life. Soon, however, it turns out that Itsuki himself is as free as the plants he collects and photographs – and he just disappears…
The novel was filmed in 2016 and hit the cinemas under the title Evergreen Love. The main characters were played by Mitsuki Takahata and Takanori Iwata. But even those of you who have seen the film will find many new things in the book, as well as photos of plants – and even recipes.
