I really like anthologies that collect stories according to some thematic key. After all, we usually get a selection of texts that the editors liked the most, representative of a certain period or literary movement. But if we’re talking about contemporary texts, isn’t it fun to give writers a topic and see how they approach it and how they interpret it?
The theme of this anthology is school. Shool is also a place where you spend a large part of your lives – with corridors, a library, a nurse’s office, a cloakroom (isn’t that the perfect place for a crime story?), but also the people you go to school with, sports and extracurricular activities and a whole range of emotions. You will find all these – and more – in this collection. There are all sorts of genres here – horror and sci-fi, and lots of coming-of-age stories. Expect some thrills and a large dose of humour.
As usual, the editors of these thematic anthologies focused on the best authors. In the collection you will find a story by Kanako Nishi, who will soon have her Polish-language debut, as well as Mizuki Tsujimura, the author of the Lonely Castle in the Mirror, which is currently conquering English-speaking markets. And by the way – it’s also about school.
