A beautiful collection of poems by two famous poets – Ono no Komachi and Izumi Shikibu. Both are female authors living in Heian period, a time considered golden age in Japanese court literature. They wrote about love, religion, the nature surrounding them. They have closed their emotions and thought in the form of tanka, a traditional 31 syllable poem.
The anthology contains also an essay about Japanese literature and the translation process. It also gives hints and information how to interpret some of the poems.
