In The Transparent Labyrinth, Keiichirō Hirano tells a love story marked by absurdity and horror-like mystery. It begins with the kidnapping of a group of people who are forced to have sex in front of an audience, and then are released – and do not pursue the perpetrators of the kidnapping. The group includes Misa, a young Japanese girl, and Okada, the main character of the story.

The events of The Transparent Labyrinth revolve around Okada’s affair with Misato and her twin sister, which serve as an example of Hirano’s concept of dividualism. According to Hirano, dividualism is to be a response to individualism, which is behind the development of globalization and nationalism. In the story, however, you will not find philosophical or political considerations. The Transparent Labyrinth is a story so strange and improbable that it almost feel like fantasy.

Keshiki series is a collection of mini books featuring short stories and novellas. Keshiki (景色) means landscape or place, space.
