The Circus Infinite is the debut novel by Khan Wong, in which the author takes us on a crazy intergalactic journey. Jes, the main character of the novel, is a kind of outcast: he doesn’t fit anywhere, doesn’t belong to any community, and he feels very lonely. Due to his extraordinary abilities, his parents sell him to a mysterious Institute, which conducts painful experiments on the boy. Tired of such an existence, he decides to run away and finally find freedom. He ends up on Persephone – 9, the galaxy-infamous planet of debauchery, where he joins a circus troupe of outcast artists similar to him. Unfortunately, Jes gets himself into trouble that may threaten not only him, but also his relatives …

Wong creates a brilliant story with a plot that draws you in from the very first page. The protagonists are full-blooded and human; it’s easy to feel for them and start cheering for them. You can admire the author’s skilful representation of asexual people – Wong is also one of them, so we are dealing with some strongly autobiographical aspects. The Circus Infinite is a book about searching for your true self, finding your place in the world, discovering love (not only romantic ); about the power of true friendship and families that go beyond blood ties. If you fancy some good young adult science fiction, this book is definitely for you!
