Austeria publishing house reached for the well-known and popular short poetic form of haiku and prepared for its readers quite a large, and at the same time pleasantly minimalistic collection of poems by the masters of the genre. In the translation by Beata Szymańska and Anna Kuchta – in the introduction to the volume called a lyrical translation, a poetic attempt to deal with the Japanese character of haiku and present their subtle impact in a way understandable to the Polish reader – you can read the works of Matsuo Bashō, Yosa Buson, Kobayashi Issa and Masaoka Shiki. In addition to the few-line poems, we also find the originals in Japanese, which appears on opposite pages: a bit like a reflection in the surface of a lake. The masters would be pleased.
